Philadelphia Fashion Week
Fashion week strode along the catwalks of Philly this past weekend. No, it wasn't like New York or Paris, but by the end of the week Philly really seemed to find its niche in the world of fashion. In between all the free foreign imports, Blue Coat G&Ts, and bottomless bottles of Barefoot wine, I was able to appreciate the smaller things in high fashion; the red carpet entrance, the catered hor deurevs, the North Bowl mini bacon burgers, some of the Philadelphia Eagles, the gangs of models, mock socialite Arthur Kade and a lot of other Aristocrats floated around the scene. Off the catwalk you could find yourself navigating the vendor field, which featured locals such as Matthew Izzo. The inclusion of student-generated lines from local art schools was a pleasant addition to the runway (Philadelphia University, The Moore College of Art and Design, and The Art Institute of Philadelphia), some of which outshined the real designers... Another great feature was the musical line up: Philly's own Black Landord, DJ Mr. Sonny James, The Model, DJ Dirty, The Hustle, DJ Phsh, and the best performance award goes to (drum roll) TUpHace whose music really pumped up the Triple5Soul show and made it the best run of the week. I'd like to personally thank Philly based modeling agency, Wilhelmina, for providing the stunning talent, although some model walks were as gawky and awkward as the animated characters from a Tim Burton film. All in all, I think the event ended on a high note, or at least higher than expected. I'm looking forward to whatever comes with next year's shows, but I really hope it becomes the main event of the night rather than a mere pregame for a binge-fest out at Silk.
